K-3D is the free-as-in-freedom 3D modeling, animation, and rendering system for GNU/Linux, MacOSX, and Windows operating systems. K-3D features a robust plugin architecture, is designed to scale to the needs of professional artists, and is designed from-the-ground-up to generate motion-picture-quality animation using RenderMan-compliant render engines such as Aqsis and Pixie.

K-3D is based on a powerful Visualization Pipeline that enables Procedural Modeling - retaining a complete history of the steps used to create a model, while allowing artists to "go back" and modify previous choices without undoing later decisions. The Visualization Pipeline is complemented by an unlimited hierarchical undo/redo system, so artists can use procedural or pipeline-based workflows to suit individual tastes.

K-3D provides a complete set of modern modeling primitives, including linear, cubic, and NURBS curves; bilinear, bicubic, and NURBS patches, standard quadrics, general polyhedra with support for face holes, subdivision surfaces, and implicit surfaces.

K-3D can be integrated into any render pipeline, and ships with plugin render engines for all popular RenderMan engines and Yafray.
