Nice start!

One item I'm not clear on is: why Collada? Wouldn't it be better to use the OGRE native file formats? Quoting from the OGRE website:

"Note that the Ogre does not strive for an exhaustive support of all kinds of common file formats, but instead provides Ogre specific OGRE Exporters for popular digital content creation tools."

It seems as if OGRE input/output plugins would be more consistent with the OGRE philosophy.
